29/08/2024 Vlieland
Kinetic Sounds is a sound installation that consists of a collection of rotating speakers in the room, each with its own shape and identity. You can see Kinetic Sounds as a mechanical version of an orchestra or as an automated ensemble of separately controlled musicians who all have their own sound, character and movement.
Composer Wouter Snoei has composed a new work for Kinetic Sounds especially for Into The Great Wide Open; a so-called generative composition, so not a fixed piece of music that is played, but a living sound work that grows slowly over two days and is never the same. The work is three-dimensional, the listener gets to hear a different perspective at every point in the room, some sounds can only be heard if you are very close to the speakers and others reverberate throughout the room. In the church of Vlieland this creates a unique spatial experience.
On Thursday and Friday there will be three live performances, a duet between the installation and a musician, where unexpected impulses are given by the two different musicians who play together with the work of Wouter Snoei.
• Lucija Gregov (cello): Thursday, August 29 at 8:30 PM and Friday, August 30 at 4:15 PM.
• Lise Morrison (church organ): Friday, August 30, 11:00 am
In addition to these concerts, Kinetic Sounds can be visited continuously at
Thursday August 29 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Friday August 30 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM
